Asheville Symphony Presents “Masterworks 2: Legacy”
Acclaimed pianist Terrence Wilson performs Beethoven’s epic “Emperor” piano concerto.

The Asheville Symphony continues its 2024-2025 season with “Masterworks 2: Legacy,” on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Asheville.
Originally scheduled for October 2024 and moved to January because of Hurricane Helene, the program will feature Terrence Wilson, a pianist hailed by The Baltimore Sun as “one of the biggest pianistic talents to have emerged in this country in the last 25 years.”
This monumental program explores the legacy of some of classical music’s greatest composers.
C.P.E. Bach’s Symphony in D Major opens the concert, showcasing the brilliance of one of Beethoven’s early influences. The centerpiece of the concert is Beethoven’s iconic Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor,” a piece renowned for its grandeur and innovation.
Joining the Asheville Symphony for this titanic work is acclaimed soloist Terrence Wilson, whose virtuosic playing promises an unforgettable performance. The program concludes with Brahms’s radiant Symphony No. 3, a symphony deeply rooted in Beethoven’s legacy but with a voice entirely Brahms’s own.
Terrence Wilson has appeared as soloist with major orchestras across the United States and abroad. He has received numerous awards and prizes, including the SONY ES Award for Musical Excellence, an Avery Fisher Career Grant, and the Juilliard Petschek Award. In 2011, Wilson was nominated for a Grammy in the category of “Best Instrumental Soloist With an Orchestra” for his recording with the Nashville Symphony conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero of Michael Daugherty’s Deus ex Machina for piano and orchestra, written for Wilson in 2007.
Wilson is a graduate of The Juilliard School. A native of the Bronx, he resides in Montclair, New Jersey. In March 2021, Wilson was appointed to the piano faculty at Bard College Conservatory of Music.
“Masterworks 2: Legacy” will be breathtaking to experience in the First Baptist Church of Asheville, according to Daniel Crupi, Executive Director of the Asheville Symphony. “There’s something truly special about hearing music in this space.
