“Ti[r]ed” – Black Women

Presented by Different Strokes! Performing Arts Collective on Monday, January 20, 2025.

A new online production from Different Strokes! speaks poetic justice to being a Black Woman in the land of opportunity and freedom.

Ti[r]ed”– Black Women takes center stage in the digital space, offering a raw, unapologetic, and deeply moving exploration of the lives of Black women in America. This compelling compilation of spoken word poetry and dramatic readings capture the challenges, joys, and trials faced by Black women in the United States, during this 21st century.

Ti[r]ed”– Black Women boldly addresses themes of strength, identity, and the intersection of race and gender in a society that often demands much but gives little in return. It expresses is a collective sigh of frustration born from a history of systemic inequities, relentless microaggressions, and unrecognized labor.

Like “…while Black, which high-lighted the voices of Black Americans’ perspectives on the senseless murder of unarmed Black men and women, in 2020, “Ti[r]ed”– Black Women seeks specifically to amplify the voices of Black women,” said creator/producer/director Stephanie Hickling Beckman. “It’s not just a showcase of artistic talent—it’s a reflection of the strength, vulnerability, and hope that Black women embody every day.”

Featuring a talented ensemble of performers, the production brings a diverse range of perspectives, blending art with activism to spark dialogue and inspire change. Viewers can expect deeply personal narratives, heart-wrenching truths, and moments of unfiltered joy, all woven together into a tapestry that celebrates the beauty and complexity of being a Black woman in America.

“Ti[r]ed”– Black Women, is both a celebration of Black womanhood and a call to action, urging audiences to reflect on the personal and systemic barriers Black women face, particularly in the context of today’s socio-political landscape.

The production will run one night only, on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 7 p.m. A live Q&A session with the creators and performers will follow the premiere, providing an opportunity for audiences to engage in meaningful discussions about the themes explored in the work.
