Virtual Public Reading of The Bluest Eye

Angela Davis, Nikole Hannah-Jones, and others celebrate the iconic Toni Morrison February 23-24 with a virtual marathon reading of “The Bluest Eye.”

Join Literacy Partners to celebrate the iconic Toni Morrison with a free, public reading of The Bluest Eye, honoring the legacy of Toni Morrison.

Society continues to receive Morrison’s first novel with controversy. She is unapologetic in her depiction of the suffering and neglect of Black girls and women and the consequences of the psychological and physical violence they have endured for generations. Morrison is equally committed to lifting up their humanity and grace while interrogating the mechanisms by which oppression is internalized.

The event features some of the most compelling voices in publishing and social activism, including Nikole Hannah-Jones, Tayari Jones, Jacqueline Woodson, Jesmyn Ward, Glory Edim, and other amazing women.

The two-night event will be held February 23 & 24, 2022, beginning at 7 p.m.
