Mama's girls promoComing to Asheville with Regina Belle Mother’s Day

AARP of North Carolina and Gdavis Productions will present a single performance of the award-winning play Mama’s Girls!! Sunday May 12, at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in downtown Asheville.

Mama’s Girls was written by Garrett Davis, creator of the nationally acclaimed Forget Me Not Project. The production received the 2012 Urban Theater Award for the 2012 DC Black Theater Festival. Davis was also awarded the Pioneer Award at the Inaugural Playwrights Ball in Charlotte, NC for the 2012 Project Prepare To Care Tour featuring Mama’s Girls, sponsored in part by AARP.

AARP’s Prepare to Care program is an initiative that helps caregivers to determine what they’ll need in their new roles, how to assemble an action plan for providing care for the recipient and themselves, and how to access care giving support services in the community.

“As many of the play’s attendees provide care for loved ones and others in the community on a regular basis, Mama’s Girls will not only entertain, but inspire,” said AARP NC State Director Doug Dickerson. “The play will provide useful information which they can apply in their everyday lives.” The production features Tony Award-nominee Samantha McSwain, Julie Logan from the Tri-City Singers, LaTonya Simms from the stage play Forget Me Not, R&B singer Shae Williams, actor Kynya Milam (The Lord Will Make a Way) and four-time Grammy winner Regina Belle.
