The Shiloh Community Association recently celebrated the completion of the community’s new amphitheater.

More than 325 people attended the event. They were greeted by a delightful welcome from the Association’s president Sophie Dixon, and prayer by Rev. Spencer Hardaway. Remarks were given by Asheville City Councilman Chris Pelly.

The annual event is the next stage in meeting the goals and objectives of the 2025 Shiloh Community Plan: to assure the nature and character of the area is preserved; promoting cooperative relationships by residents and property owners; and, embracing the importance of community building for future generations.

Asheville Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts, Asheville Buncombe Institute of Parity Achievement, Reuter YMCA of Western NC, and the owners of the Tupelo Honey Restaurant and Café partnered with the Shiloh Community Association to assist in providing healthy food choices at a number of the association’s community events during 2013. After seeing the strong family connections and learning of the historical connection Shiloh has to the development of the Biltmore Estate, the partners wanted to be a part of developing the community gardens and pavilion.

The idea to build an amphitheater and place a pizza oven and grills in the garden are fulfilling the suggestions reflected from a community survey to have more means of promoting community events and family gatherings.

“This was a great opportunity for our partnership with Tupelo Honey Restaurant and Café to grow,” said Shiloh Community President Sophie Dixon. The owners of Tupelo Honey graciously volunteered to spearhead and finance the building of the amphitheater, pizza oven, and grills in the Shiloh Community Garden.

The Celebration also provided an opportunity to recognize and memorialize Mr. Lawrence Wilson who donated the property where the Shiloh Community Garden is located. Mr. Wilson passed away early this year, and it was befitting that the amphitheater commemorate him.

Everyone enjoyed the music and the performances’ of all the churches in the Shiloh community. The children enjoyed baking pizza in the new pizza oven and the delicious Food from Tupelo Honey Café was enjoyed by all.
