On Sunday, December 5, the Christmas portion (Part One) of Handel’s Messiah will be performed at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church at 40 Church St. in downtwon Asheville. The concert will benefit Room at the Inn homeless women’s shelter and Keowee Chamber Music.

This unique performance of Handel’s beloved masterpiece will feature the instruments playing the vocal lines with the organ as orchestra. Soloists are Kate Steinbeck, flute; Alicia Chapman, English horn; John Bryant, trumpet; Mary Beth Hussey, cello; and Eric Wall, music director of First Presbyterian Church, on the organ.

Room at the Inn, a partnership of local churches, helps provide
overnight shelter and meals for homeless women every day of the year.
Keowee Chamber Music, directed by flutist Kate Steinbeck, is acclaimed
for its eclectic top-quality concerts and outreach to underserved
audiences in Asheville and the WNC region.

Room at the Inn and Keowee Chamber Music will share proceeds from
this event. In this season of goodwill, this well-loved music is
offered to allow homeless women to have a place of welcome and to
support an Asheville-grown music ensemble. The musicians are generously
donating their services for this event. Both Room at the Inn and Keowee
Chamber Music are 501c3 not-for-profit organizations.

No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but a suggested donation of $25 is appreciated.
