Spring Fling Plant Sale
Saturday, May 12, 2018 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the American Red Cross, 100 Edgewood Road, off of Merrimon Avenue in Asheville.
The Extension Master Gardeners, in partnership with the Asheville Blue Ridge Rose Society (ashevillerosesociety.org), will host the Spring Fling Plant Sale. The sale will be held rain or shine.
The Secret Life of Trees
Thursday, May 17, 2018 – 10 a.m. to noon at the NC Cooperative Extension, Buncombe County Center, 49 Mount Carmel Road, Asheville.
Do you wonder about all the trees that surround you in Western North Carolina? What kinds of trees grow here? What factors affect their growth? What role do they play in our environment? Why do trees die in urban landscapes? Learn answers to these questions and more.
The presentation is by Steve Pettis, Henderson County Commercial and Consumer Horticulture Agent, NC State Cooperative Extension. The talk is free, but registration is required by calling (828) 255-5522.
Saturday Seminar: Container Gardening: Right Plant, Right Place, Right Container
Saturday, May 19, 2018 – 10 a.m. to noon at the NC Cooperative Extension, Buncombe County Center, 49 Mt. Carmel Road, Asheville.
What do you do when you love gardening but only have a small space to work with? Container gardening may be the answer for you. Yes, you can successfully grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers in containers. We take the mystery out of container gardening and will send you home with new information and a great handout.

Backyard Composting Demo
May 12 & 26 – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jesse Israel & Sons Garden Center, WNC Farmers Market, 570 Brevard Road, Asheville, NC.
Buncombe County Master Gardener volunteers maintain a compost demonstration garden to teach composting techniques, provide printed material and answer questions. Several compost systems are displayed including a worm composting bin.

The Garden Helpline is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon, from March through September.
