Thank you to all my readers who have encouraged me and offered suggestions for topics here in The Urban News.

As you may have read, I along with others who share my willingness to “pay blessings forward” have begun the Stone Soup Classes at the Arthur R. Edington Education and Career Center. I am very happy that we have had a very solid turnout for the first and second classes with the expectation of continued growth.

One might ask, what makes me so certain and enthusiastic about the classes? The answer is simple. When we come together in agreement there is nothing that can stop us! Some men who attended classes expressed hope and the classes have renewed their spirits. When we agree to show up, some things can really happen.

People have said that my articles are positive, feel-good articles. The truth is these articles are born out of a certain pain that no else could possible understand (unless they are black like me). I want to do what I can to help our young sons and daughter thrive, and not just survive. We are strong, smart, original, loving, generous, proud and spiritual people. We are the “true north” for the compass of morality. In this paper, my goal is to invite, challenge, push, or pull someone from the dark pits of fear and doubt, into the light of truth and power. The truth is, we have our own power, we have brilliant ideas.

We are not victims of our past: we are survivors of it!

We have already proven who we are. As we begin the fourth phase of our freedom struggle, we see that economic equality will not be given to us by anyone. This is not new information, but it is real talk. The call today is to try a black business out. Give us a shot. I see the genius of our people. We now have a place where we can share our talent.

Finally, I invite you to join us on Wednesday night for Stone Soup Communiversity (common sense community university) at 6 p.m. at the Arthur R. Edington Education and Career Center at 133 Livingston Street in Asheville. This is where we feed our mind.

You don’t have to be great to get started but you do have to start to become great! Turn Up for Stone Soup Communiversity!
