Covid-19 Infections Growing
Covid infections are once again rising rapidly in the Asheville area.

As of August 26, 2025, the CDC estimated that Covid-19 infections are growing in 31 states, declining or likely declining in four states, and not changing in 12 states.
The number of reported infections is now higher than a couple of months ago.
In North Carolina the Covid-19 epidemic trend is growing. Rising numbers of tourists have contributed to quickly rising Covid rates. As students return to school, Asheville is experiencing a wave of Covid infections.
Now is a good time to discuss risks and precautions with family and community members. Avoid packed indoor spaces with little masking, and please wear an N95 mask while indoors.
The Covid vaccine remains your strongest defense against Stratus, the newest variant of the disease. However, access to the Covid vaccine might be harder to come by than the influenza vaccine due to changing health mandates.
Under the Trump administration, the US Food and Drug Administration has said access to Covid shots this fall will likely be restricted to adults aged 65 and older and those with underlying health conditions.
