Daily Confirmed Cases of Monkeypox in the US

North Carolinians can visit ncdhhs.gov/monkeypox for current case numbers and more information about the monkeypox outbreak.

Case numbers will be updated Monday through Friday and demographic data on cases and vaccination will be updated weekly.

“It’s important to remember that anyone in any group of people can get monkeypox, which spreads mostly through prolonged skin-to-skin contact,” said NCDHHS Secretary Kody H. Kinsley.

Monkeypox virus can be spread person-to-person through infected body fluids (including saliva and lesion fluid), items that have been in contact with infected fluids or lesion crusts, and respiratory droplets. The incubation period is usually 7−14 days but can range from 5−21 days. People with monkeypox are infectious from the start of symptoms (before the rash forms) until the lesions heal and new skin forms underneath scabs and the scabs have all fallen off.

Public health officials urge North Carolinians to “Get Checked. Get Tested. Get Vaccinated.” to reduce spread of monkeypox. Testing is widely available for everyone, and, as vaccines continue arriving in the state, health officials encourage those at-risk and eligible to seek vaccination as quickly as possible.

Vaccines have been prioritized for people who are currently most at risk of exposure to monkeypox. People interested in receiving the vaccine can visit the NCDHHS monkeypox site at www.ncdhhs.gov/divisions/public-health/monkeypox/monkeypox-vaccine-locations for information and a list of locations.

If you have an unexplained rash, sores, or other symptoms, see your health care provider. If you don’t have a provider or health insurance, contact your local health department. Keep the rash covered and avoid sex or being intimate with anyone until you have been checked out by a health care provider. Avoid in-person gatherings. Standard household cleaners and detergents are effective at cleaning environmental surfaces and linens.
