No-Cost Foot Care for Older African American Adults

A physician/social worker team will provide foot care and other services to a medically underserved population, the African American community of Asheville, NC. Association leaders, and the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center.

The Toenails and Elder Tales Foot Care Clinic is a community outreach program designed by MemoryCare.

A physician/social worker team will provide foot care and other services to a medically underserved population, the African American community of Asheville, NC. For this project, MemoryCare will partner with the Asheville Buncombe Institute for Parity Achievement (ABIPA), the WNC Bridge Foundation, the Shiloh Community Association leaders, and the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center.

The clinic begins on Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center. No registration is needed, and all services are provided for no cost. Older adults will receive foot care including foot baths, checking for common medical problems that impact mobility, and toenail trimming. Education on healthy aging and referrals to community services will be available as needed.

Future foot care clinics will be held January 27, February 10, February 24, March 10, March 24, April 28, May 12, and May 26, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
