Mission Hospital Ranked among Nation’s Best for Quality of Care

Mission Healthcare_Facility_CampusDayASHEVILLE, N.C. (May 22, 2015) – Mission Hospital has been recognized as one of the top in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in its 2015-16 edition of Best Hospitals for its quality of care in the most common surgeries and medical treatments. The magazine ranked Mission Hospital as high performing in ten adult specialty areas including all five areas of common care that include heart bypass surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement, heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.

The national magazine known for its annual Best Hospitals ratings has been ranking hospitals annually for 25 years and this year created the new “common care” rankings to consider the kinds of diseases and conditions that most commonly lead to hospitalizations.  Mission Hospital was one of only 34 hospitals ranked as high performing in all five types of common care treatment.

“We are pleased and proud to receive this recognition for the quality of care we provide,” said Jill Hoggard Green, PhD, RN, COO of Mission Health and President of Mission Hospital and Mission Medical Associates. “These rankings reflect the hard work and commitment of our dedicated caregivers to our western North Carolina community.”

To generate the rankings, U.S. News evaluated hospitals across more than 25 quality measures – including mortality, readmissions, infections and patient satisfaction scores – and analyzed more than 5 million patient records, taking into account each patient’s health conditions, age, sex, socioeconomic status and other factors affecting risk.
