Sickle Cell Awareness Health Fair
The Outreach Ministry of the Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church is hosting “Sickle Cell Awareness Health Fair 2008” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, September 20, at the church’s Fellowship Hall at 100 Carroll Avenue in Asheville. There will be activities for all ages, door prizes, and nutritional snacks available for all who attend.
Sickle cell anemia is a hereditary blood disease that affects mostly people of African descent and some individuals from Mediterranean countries.
The purposes of the health fair are to raise awareness of the
disease, provide demonstrations and health screenings, and teach people
how to control sickle cell anemia. Representatives of local health
agencies will be on hand to answer questions and distribute information
about sickle cell and such self-care practices as healthy eating and
good exercise.
There will also be cooking demonstrations, food sampling, and
information about support services available to those suffering from
the disease as well as family members and caregivers.
The Sickle Cell Awareness Health Fair is open to the public. For more information, contact Sandra H. Robinson
at (828) 255-8592 or Sarah Dixon at (828) 274-7499.
