Floyd Oliver Caldwell Passes

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Floyd Oliver Caldwell.

Floyd was born May 18, 1946, in Asheville, NC, to the late Johnny  and Rosetta G. Caldwell-Johnson and reunited with his parents and three siblings; Harold Caldwell, Johnnie Mae Coleman, and Mary Frances Gray.

A graduate of the historic Stephens-Lee High School class of 1965, Floyd attended Housatonic Community College where he obtained a degree in Electronics and later earned a barbering certification.

Floyd O. Caldwell was also a proud Vietnam War Veteran and a Certified Sharpshooter, being honored with several military awards.

Floyd had a deep passion for scripture and was a devoted member of Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church, serving faithfully on the Usher Board. Floyd’s greatest passion was studying the Holy Bible and sharing the Word.

Floyd was also well known for his love of sports and coaching. He led three beloved teams in the Asheville City League—the Sweat-Hogs, Blackwell, and On Broadway—earning admiration, respect, and lifelong friendships. Floyd also played semi-pro football with the Asheville Bears, reflecting his athletic talent and leadership.

Floyd is survived by Diane, his loving wife of 52 years; five children: Regina Caldwell of Lawrenceville, GA; Tarji L. Caldwell of Charlotte, NC; Bilalian (Lisa) Caldwell of Hendersonville, NC; Karleff Caldwell of Hendersonville, NC; and Dr. Melea R. Caldwell of Portsmouth, VA, as well as by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Floyd’s memory is also lovingly held by his surviving siblings: Juanita Coxton, Shirley (Charles) Young, Pearley (late John) Simmons, Dorothy (late Cleave) Martin, all of Asheville, NC; and Anthony (Michele) Caldwell of Greenville, SC.

Remembered as a man of faith, strength, and wisdom, Floyd’s legacy of love, leadership, and devotion to family and community will endure for generations.
