Black Lives Matter Sunday service and events will be held Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Hill Street Baptist Church of Asheville. Rev. Dr. Keith A. Ogden and congregation will host Dr. Karsonya Wise-Whitehead as the guest speaker.

Dr. Whitehead is an Associate Professor of Communications and also Professor of African and African-American Studies at Loyola University in Maryland.

whitehead_coverDr. Whitehead will also be the guest speaker at UNCA at 4 p.m. that same day. She will discuss Notes from a Colored Girl: The Civil War Pocket Diaries of Emillie Frances Davis, Letters to My Black Sons, and Raising Black Sons: Boy in a Post-Racial America.

Dr. Whitehead is the 2015 winner of the Darlene Clark Hines Book Award, and the 2014 PNBC Inc. Lifetime Achievement Award. The evening event will be held at UNCA’s Alumni Hall, in the Highsmith Building. Both events are free and open to the public.
