In the spirit of celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, join us for Part Two of our Multi-Generational Conversations on Race. A diverse group of panelists will participate in a community conversation on race, age, and generational differences in perspective. This event is brought to you by ABCRC, UNCA’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and the YWCA of Asheville.
Held at the YWCA of Asheville, 185 S. French Broad Ave.

Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance

Sunday, January 18
Annual MLK Worship Service begins at 6 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 47 Eagle Street in Asheville. Guest speaker will be Bishop Charles (JJ) Jackson, Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Spartanburg, SC.

Concert of Spirituals

Sunday, January 18
There will a concert at St. Matthias Church beginning at 3 p.m. and featuring Robert Zachary singing spirituals. Mr. Zachary was a civil rights activists from the sixties and sang spirituals and freedom songs at mass meetings, schools, and churches. Zachary first majored in voice in college. He went on to sing in the ATL Symphony Orchestra Chorus and the 7th Army Chorus in Heidelberg Germany.

A free-will donation will be taken for the artist and the church restoration fund. The church is located in Asheville just off South Charlotte Street at Max Street on the hill across from the Asheville Public Works Building (1 Dundee St.). St. James AME MLK, Jr. Peace Walk & Fish Fry

Monday, January 19
The Men’s Club of St. James will host its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Fish Fry beginning at 11 a.m. This event is held in conjunction with the annual Peace Walk. Enjoy a fish sandwich, slaw, and chips for $7. Drinks will cost $1. Delivery will be available with the purchase of three or more sandwiches. Kenilworth MLK Celebration

Monday, January 19
The 5th annual celebration takes place in the Fellowship Hall of Kenilworth Presbyterian Church, 123 Kenilworth Road. Potluck dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. Speakers for the evening will be Dr. Darin Waters and Dr. Dwight Mullen. The evening will be moderated by Marvin Chambers.
