The Power of Praise and Worship

Rev. Keith D. Knox, Sr.

It seems as if some of the professed Christians of today have lost touch with the channel through which God moves on situations in life.

So many deal with so much in this day and time, that they are broken down and their faith is seriously questioned. It seems as if the troubles in life cause so many to question the truth of the power of God and his ability to do all things for those who believe in him.

I am reminded in Acts 16:25-26 of the account of Paul and Silas. Verse 25: And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God, and the prisoners heard them. Verse 26: And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

Paul
and Silas had been beaten and put into prison because they had
interrupted some Philippians’ money making game. In the midst of their
pains and troubles, they did not complain and cuss, nor did they blame
anyone; they just praised and worshipped the Lord.

What so many
fail to grasp is that praise and worship are the channels through which
God’s powers are opened. Some believe the time of trouble is the time
to become depressed and worried. How untrue this is. When we are
staring troubles in the face we should have the faith and belief in God
that he will see us through. And, because of such faith, we begin to
worship Him in both spirit and in truth.

So many continue
to be bound and imprisoned because they fail to exercise the power of
praise and worship, which opens that channel for God to operate in our
lives. There is great danger in just sitting in our churches week after
week trying to figure out why we aren’t seeing God do anything new.

The saved as
well as the unsaved sometimes under estimate the power of the people
and the ability to unleash God’s power on life. So many want to see
something new but fail to properly deal with the present. We ought to
be doing the things that will cause some earthquakes in our cities and
homes. The thing that will not only cause the personal but will cause
everyone’s bands to loosen.

There is true
power in praise and worship. If our praise and worship is as it should
be, in spirit and truth, it’s not a new thing we will see, but the
supernatural where only the Lord can take us through the right praise.
The Lord, through true praise and worship, dwells with his people. It
is true praise and worship that will take us up to that level none can
reach without being taken by God-which is the supernatural.

It is this place
that the Lord takes us to get out of the “stuff” where Satan can rough
us up. If there is one thing we should focus on today, it is the power
of praise and worship. True praise and worship is not just a “Sunday”
thing. True praise and worship have nothing to do with race and creed.
We have to praise on Monday just as we do on Sunday. According to
Psalms 100, we all must enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into
His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name.
