In our zeal to advance technology and move civilization forward, we have overlooked a simple and profound truth: we need Mother Earth more than she needs us.

I imagine that in the century since this was written, we had been to the brink of a planetary melt down, and because of your commitment to conservation and global cooperation, humankind can still call Earth our home.

Many species no longer share our great fortune. I’m sure that new species will have emerged and changed the ecology in a way that will have had irreversible impact, and yet Mother Nature has prevailed.

My message to you is to continue to be good stewards over our planet. We have already caused mutations in our world. I believe that after long-term drought conditions and global warming consequences we have begun the good work of reclaiming our planet. I am also optimistic that under your stewardship the use of genetically modified food will be limited as you now better understand the consequences of their development over the past 100 years.

Our country has become a nation of “brown people,” and I am cautioning you to remember the racial tension and strife under which our country languished. Racial segregation, intellectual redlining, disparities in healthcare, economic disenfranchisement, micro-aggression, and implicit bias nearly destroyed this great country. Failure to remain vigilant in these critical areas will weaken the foundation upon which our Constitution was founded. We must never repeat the small-mindedness and vitriolic behaviors of our past.

Remember it is the duty of the strong to defend and lift up the weak. Remember to pray often, love openly, and give to those in need. It is the obligation of the faithful to teach and pray for the irreverent. Remember that we did not make ourselves, and whatever your belief, know that we need the gifts, talents, insights, care, and understanding of every person alive today to fulfill the promise of liberty and happiness for all humankind.
