Fiesta Latina
The 17th Annual Fiesta Latina will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014, from noon to 8 p.m. at Roger McGuire Green in downtown Asheville’s Pack Square.
Fiesta Latina is the region’s largest and oldest festival celebrating Latin American culture. Set during Hispanic Heritage month, it provides a positive Latin experience with displays of traditional, contemporary and folk music, dance, and art, as well as tantalizing ethnic food. Fiesta Latina is a family-oriented event, open to the public, free of charge. Niñoville, an area within the festival dedicated to fun and educational experiences for children, is a huge hit with the kids.

The Alayo Dance Company
As part of Asheville’s celebration of Hispanic heritage throughout October, the award-winning Alayo Dance Company will appear at the Diana Wortham Theater at Pack Place on Friday, October 31, 2014, at 8 p.m.
The San Fran-cisco-based company performs an innovative fusion of Afro-Cuban modern, folkloric and popular Cuban dance, eloquently articulate their aesthetic vision through a synthesis of these dance styles.
The company was founded by Ramón Ramos Alayo, a Cuban-born dancer and choreographer with a master’s in contemporary and folkloric dance and dance education from Havana’s National School of Art.
Alayo has grown an audience far more diverse than most Bay Area modern dance circuits, attracting devotees of both contemporary and folkloric arts. It is known for tackling difficult issues such as slavery, racism and cancer, and since its inception has produced nine evening-length productions that have received both critical and popular acclaim.
In 2010 Alayo was one of the first American companies to ever perform at the Annual Festival del Caribe at Teatro Martí. Alayo also performed at Teatro Mella in Havana, Cuba in July 2011. Alayo Dance Company was featured in the article “Dance Across America” in National Geographic Magazine in 2006.

Miss Gay Latina Pageant
On Nov. 1, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. the Diana Wortham Theater will host the 7th annual Miss Gay Latina Asheville pageant. Contestants will compete in several categories, including traditional costumes native to their country of representation, talent, and evening gown.
Along with performances by contestants, the audience will be entertained by current and former national titleholders, as well as an appearance by the Alayo Dance Company.
