Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Weekend Events
Each year The Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County sponsors a full range of activities honoring the memory of Dr. King.
Thursday, January 13
6:00 p.m. – Candlelight Service honoring community organizations that work to fulfill Dr. King’s dream, featuring the Miller-Reynolds Chorale. Nazareth First Baptist Church, 146 Pine Street, off Martin Luther King Blvd. in Asheville.
Saturday, January 15
8:30 a.m. – The 30th annual Prayer Breakfast, featuring political activist and educator Donna Brazile at the Grove Park Inn Grand Ballroom, with the King Celebration Choir.
Monday, January 17
Noon – Peace March and Rally from St. James AME Zion Church at the
corner of MLK Boulevard and Hildebrand Street; gather beginning at 11:30
a.m.
Prior to the March, non-perishable food items will be collected for
MANNA Food Bank. Food collection bins will be located at the gathering
area near St. James Church.
UNC Asheville co-sponsors MLK youth activities. The Peace March and
Rally are co-sponsored by the City of Asheville and Buncombe County.
The Candlelight Service and
Peace March are free and open to the public.Tickets for the Prayer Breakfast cost $30 for adults and $20 for youth.
