This holiday season we’ve heard many heart-touching stories, and people reaching out for help. As part of its “Red Velvet Christmas” event, the YMI Cultural Center will donate 25 decorated Christmas trees to families in and around Asheville and Buncombe County. Each tree will be decorated and sponsored by area businesses and organizations that have contributed to the event.
“We’ve had such a positive response and sponsorship – the goodwill is overwhelming,” said Dan Johnson, Interim Director of the YMI. “In this time of economic stress it was one of our good-faith gestures to make this holiday season enjoyable for children and families. There is a definite need throughout the Asheville area.”
The YMI has filled two of its gallery rooms with the lighted Christmas trees. Johnson and Interim Operating Director Ron King expressed gratitude to the Mission Hospital System Foundation and CEO Bruce Thorsen for their generous sponsorship of the “Red Velvet Christmas Event.”
