Asheville Branch NAACP Salute to Greatness
from Staff reports
The Asheville Branch NAACP will host a “Salute to Greatness” Saturday, September 13, to honor those who go the extra mile in support of freedom through the total commitment that Life Membership in the NAACP demands. Life Members are the backbone of the organization and the community. They will be recognized beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church, 100 Carroll Avenue in Asheville.
The honoree and keynote speaker will be attorney Frank Goldsmith, a trial lawyer and mediator who has been an ACLU cooperating attorney for approximately 36 years. His dedication to justice led to the release of an innocent man, Glen Edward Chapman, who had been sentenced to death row and spent over fifteen years on death row because of fabricated evidence. Mr. Goldsmith will present details about the commitment of time, documentation, and investigation that are required to proceed in a legal process.
Funds raised
