On Monday, August 18, 2025, impacted people, moral activists, and moral leaders came together in twelve southern states to reject the president’s Big, Ugly, Deadly, Destructive Budget Bill.

“This is a moral emergency, not a partisan squabble,” said Bishop William J. Barber II. “If Congress will not listen in Washington, we will bring the cries of the people straight to their hometowns, face to face. Lawmakers must reckon with the moral consequences of their choices, not behind closed doors in D.C., but right here among their constituents.”

Moral Mondays: A Southern Call to Conscience

Organized nationally by Repairers of the Breach, “Moral Mondays: A Southern Call to Conscience” provided a platform for those most impacted by deadly budget cuts to share their story and call on legislators to act.

Following prayer and rallies, moral activists attempted to meet with their US Senators and members of Congress to call on them to enact a moral budget and moral public policies that respond to the urgent needs of the poor.

Rallies took place in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Coffins were carried to symbolize the death that will result from this bill, including the over 51,000 people who could die next year from lack of healthcare as a result of this legislative evil passed by the American Congress.
