Yogananda Pittman, an alumna of HBCU Morgan State University in Baltimore, has been named Acting Chief of the Capitol Police in Washington, DC.

Pittman, who earned a BS in Psychology from Morgan State in 1999, has overseen Protective and Intelligence Operations during her tenure as Assistant Chief and will continue those responsibilities as Acting Chief. She previously led Capitol Police protection of President Barack Obama’s second inaugural in 2013.

Pittman is the first woman and the first African American to oversee the Capitol Police. Her elevation follows the forced resignation of disgraced former chief Stephen Sund, who presided over the inept response to the terrorist attack on the US Capitol January 6, 2021.
