Durham, NC – Three former employees of North Carolina Central University have filed lawsuits accusing the first female Chancellor of North Carolina Central University, Debra Saunders-White, of widely discriminating against non-blacks at the school, and spending taxpayer money on personal expenses.
The women are seeking back pay and other damages as part of their federal lawsuits.
Kimberly Luse, Saunders-White’s former chief of staff, also filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages for what she says are health problems that resulted from a racially and sexually hostile work environment. What makes this case unique from the other discrimination lawsuits is that two of the women are white, and Murphy is Cuban.
Luse alleges that Saunders-White had what she refers to as a “personal animus” toward her that intensified after she reported the chancellor for spending taxpayer money on personal expenses, with Saunders-White berating Luse in front of colleagues. Saunders-White also allegedly accused Luse of having sex with NCCU employees and visitors and fabricated documentation that Luse was not performing her job in a satisfactory manner.
