APD Detectives Charge Man with Murder in Weekend Homicide

UPDATE: According to the Asheville Police Department, Danquries Lamar Green turned himself in to the APD on Wednesday, July 13. He is being held without bond.

Asheville Police have open warrants on a man they charged with murder on July 11, 2022 in downtown Asheville.

This is the ninth homicide of 2022 in Asheville, and the seventh using a firearm.

According to the APD, the shooting occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Monday, July 11, when officers heard gunshots as they patrolled downtown. At Spruce St. just north of College St., they saw a number of persons fleeing and found 24-year-old Jamel Tyjon Grant lying on the ground. He had been shot multiple times in the back. The Officers provided emergency trauma care until Buncombe County EMS arrived and transported him to Mission Hospital, where he died.

Investigators have charged Danquries Lamar Green with 1st Degree Murder, Going Armed to the Terror of the People, and Discharging a Firearm Inside City Limits.

Green, born July 11, 1996, is described as a medium-skin-toned Black male, 6′ tall, 280 pounds, with a large build and black hair grown into long dreadlocks. He has brown eyes that may appear black due to contact lenses. He is known to frequent west Asheville.

The APD warns that Green is considered armed and dangerous.
