Homeward Bound Addresses Homelessness

Homeward Bound of Western North Carolina turned unused hotel space into housing for individuals experiencing long-term homelessness.

National media correspondent Matt Pearl’s short video tells the story of three different types of housing solutions in Asheville for individuals experiencing homelessness. It explains how the COVID crisis magnified the need for permanent supportive housing for the most vulnerable in our community. It ends with the hope of the “housing first model” and a client named Zach who loves sunflowers.

A Days Inn, a Red Roof Inn, and an apartment complex.

The journey of how they’re connected and why they matter.

“It sounds like an obvious idea: turning unused hotel space into housing for individuals experiencing long-term homelessness. But it had never been a widespread option – until the pandemic made it a necessity.” ~ Matt Pearl

Homeward Bound is raising funds to convert a nearby Days Inn to permanent housing. For more information, please visit www.homewardboundwnc.org.
