Asheville City Schools Participates in Summer Food Services Program

Asheville City Schools will again participate in the National School Lunch Program, under which meals are provided to eligible children free of charge throughout the summer.
To be eligible, a child’s family must meet the income guidelines for reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program.
Foster children and children in households that receive Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), otherwise known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits; or benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR); or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), are automatically eligible to receive free meals.
The Summer Food Service Program will operate from June 16 through August 8 at these sites: Hillcrest (11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.), Pisgah View (12:15-1:15 p.m.), and Lee Walker Heights (12:45-1:30 p.m.).
Participation in the program is open to all eligible children all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
The Summer Food Service Program also services “closed enrollment sites” at six Asheville City schools and the YWCA, serving children who are already enrolled in summer education programs. These sites are not open to the general public.
