Asheville Buncombe Black Elders (ABBE) Community Meeting – Saturday, August 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come join us and learn about affordable housing from Givens Gerber Park, weatherization from Community Action Opportunities, fall prevention programs and what we can do to prevent falls from Brea Kuykendall, Aging Program Specialist, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, at Land of Sky Regional Council Area Agency on Aging. Council on Aging Senior Dining and Wellness Programs

Offered to older adults, age 60+, who are registered with the Council on Aging (COA) of Buncombe County Senior Dining and Wellness Program. While there is no charge to participate, individuals are given the opportunity to expand services through consumer contributions.

Senior Congregate Dining at Grove Street Community Center – Monday-Friday, 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This program offers a variety of educational guest speakers, a nutritious lunch, and a friendly social setting for participants. Senior Dining and Wellness at the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center – Wednesday-Friday, 12-1 p.m. Eligible adults can enjoy nutritious hot lunches from Moose Café along with weekly fresh produce in a fun, safe, and social setting. Health Education Leading to Prevention (HELP) Program – Held on the 3rd and 4th Wednesdays, 12-1 p.m. Led by Kathey Avery, these classes focus on the self-management of chronic disease and diabetes as well as maintaining a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle. Healthy Living ABIPA – Held on the 1st and 2nd Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. ABIPA (Asheville Buncombe Institute of Parity Achievement) focuses on promoting healthy living through advocacy, education, and research for African Americans and other unserved populations. Intro to Line Dancing – Every Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. For those who are new to line dance, join this beginners course. Taught by Liz. Free. Harvest House, 205 Kenilworth Road.

Power Hour Exercise – Every Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. Gentle based chair exercise is fun and upbeat. All are welcome. Free. Grove Street Community Center, 36 Grove Street.

Qigong – Tuesdays, 1:15-1:45 p.m. A gentle form of exercise composed of movement, posture, breathing, and meditation used to promote health and spirituality. Free. Harvest House, 205 Kenilworth Road.

Shiloh Community Association – Meets the first Monday of the month from 6-8 p.m. Free and open to the public. Focus on events for the community as well as pressing issues that affect the community. Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center, 121 Shiloh Road.

Social Seniors – Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A variety of programs that include socializing and meeting new people, table games, trivia, cornhole, crafts, and more. We also offer an independent exercise area. Free. Grove Street Community Center, 36 Grove Street.

Strength & Exercise with Delia – Every Monday from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Work on strengthening, stretching and fitness. No registration required. Free. Harvest House, 205 Kenilworth Road.

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention – Wednesdays, 12:15 to 1 p.m., and Fridays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., through September 27, 2024. Designed by medical professionals to improve flexibility, strength, and fitness. Tai Chi is a mind-body exercise that reduces stress, increases relaxation, relieves pain, and improves physical function to increase balance and reduce the risk of falls. Zumba Gold at Grove Street – Every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Fun, Latin inspired exercise. Exhilarating and easy to follow. All levels are welcome. Free. Grove Street Community Center, 36 Grove Street.

Zumba Gold at Linwood Crump Shiloh – Every Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Work on your mobility while moving to the beat. This fun dance exercise focuses on cardio, flexibility, strength, and balance. Free. Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center, 121 Shiloh Road.

Zumba Gold at Stephens-Lee – Every Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. Interval-style dance fitness that combines low-intensity and high-intensity moves. Ages 40 and over. Free. Stephens-Lee Community Center, 30 George Washington Carver Avenue.

Zumba – Every Monday from 10:35-11:30 a.m. Spicy, fun, and a great workout. This is a walk-in program. No registration is required. Ages 50+. Free. Harvest House, 205 Kenilworth Road.
