Daughter’s of Esther #128, Order of the Eastern Star, host birthday celebration.

On December 2, 2023, the Daughters of Esther #128, Order of the Eastern Star, gave Worthy Matron Mrs. Willie Mae Brown a surprise 88th birthday party.

A longtime community volunteer, Mrs. Brown is a native of Asheville and a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Asheville. She has been a member of the MLK Association planning committee, a longtime board member of Asheville GreenWorks, and an active member of the Asheville-Buncombe Community Relations Council. Currently she serves on the board of directors of Community Action Opportunities.

Mrs. Brown was a recipient of the Rosa Parks Award March of 2023; she was a laureate of the Asheville-Buncombe Community Relation Council Distinguished Service Award (2010) and was named a Red Cross Hero in 2007.

Her philosophy, she says, is a saying by the 18th century theologian John Wesley, which she learned in high school English: “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” Now, at 88, she continues to do all the good she can in all the ways she can, and we are all the beneficiaries of her dedication to this community.

Willie Mae Brown has two children, one grandson, and one great-grandson, along with many other family members and friends who joined her on this special festive day.
