On Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 3 p.m., the Western North Carolina Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union will present the “Evan Mahaney Champion of Civil Liberties Award” to Tyrone Greenlee, founder and Executive Director of Asheville’s Christians for a United Community. The award was established in honor of Mahaney, the past president of the WNC Chapter of the ACLU.

Greenlee, an Asheville native and UNC-Chapel Hill grad, is a founding board member of Building Bridges and Just Economics. He works full-time as a mentor and mediator at Francine Delaney Charter School in West Asheville, and he also serves on the Green Opportunities board and Asheville’s Racial Justice Coalition.

The civil rights celebration is free and open to the public and will be held at the historic YMI Cultural Center, at 39 South Market Street. Refreshments will be served.
