My Sistah Taught Me That_Logo2Sistah (n): a girl or woman from the same roots or spiritual state of mind; a female whom you can count on throughout all time.

In her truest sense she will never turn her back on you. She knows you are not perfect, and together you do what you need to do to improve. A real sistah is family. A connection with her is based on mutual love, respect, and consideration. A sistah has your back and you have hers.

My Sistah Taught Me That (MSTMT) is a young girl’s developmental program designed to encourage, inspire, educate, and empower young girls ages 11-19 with a special focus on girls growing up in single-parent homes without their father. This program was created for young ladies in Buncombe County and surrounding areas in western North Carolina. They will have the opportunity to be exposed to professional women in our community who will provide educational opportunities and open dialogue to help them mature.

MSTMT is dedicated to Bettie J. Council, a former teacher of over thirty years in the Buncombe County school system. To this day, Ms. Council devotes her time as a treasured advocate and leader in our community, with special interest in our youth. Her daughter, Leslie Council, is the program founder of MSTMT. Leslie is passionate about encouraging young girls by providing educational experiences and opportunities they may not have been exposed to.

My Sistah Taught Me That will launch on July 7, 2016, which marks the four-year anniversary of the already established and remarkably successful program, My Daddy Taught Me That, run by Keynon Lake. These organizations fall under the same non-profit status, under KL Training Solutions, LLC.

The 1st Annual MSTMT Fashion Show Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.mysistahtaughtmethat.org.
