Asheville Chapter of the Links Award Scholarships

On Saturday, April 30, 2016, the Asheville Chapter of the Links held their annual White Rose Luncheon.
The Links continued the important tradition of awarding three $1,000 scholarships to three well deserving students from Asheville High School.
The Links’ 2016 Scholarship Recipients
Raekwon and Taekwon Griffin, the twin sons of Ms. Vernette Griffin, were born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. After their May 2016 graduation from Asheville High school both young men plan to attend the historic, world-renowned Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia this fall.

Morehouse is known for developing its students’ minds and intellectual discipline. In addition, attending college will help each of these young men gain an even deeper appreciation for the differences of culture and education.

Jasmine Washington, a May 2016 graduate of Asheville High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Washington. While at Asheville High School, Jasmine has experienced much academic success. Jasmine has done an excellent job of balancing her academic responsibilities with working and giving back to the community.
One of Jasmine’s teachers describes her as “respectful, determined and a well-rounded young lady. Jasmine will do everything in her ability to reach her fullest potential and become the person she is destined to be.”
Jasmine is also an artist. Her art work was displayed at the historic YMI Cultural Center, in downtown Asheville. She has been accepted to NC A&T University, Schools of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Savannah College of Art and Design.
For nearly two decades the Asheville Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has been providing students in the greater Asheville area with scholarships to pursue higher education. The Asheville Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was chartered in 1988.
