The Gamma Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated volunteered at the 2016 Eliada Annual Corn Maze on October 8, 2016.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is the first Greek-letter sorority established and incorporated by African American college women. It was created in 1908 at Howard University to be a support network for women who came together for mutual uplift, and to unite their talents and strength for the benefit of others.

Gamma Gamma Omege is the local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. It was chartered on March 31, 1940 in Asheville, North Carolina. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is based on the principles of sisterhood, scholarships, and service to all mankind. Volunteering at the Eliada Annual Corn Maze is a very good way of giving back to the community in a fun and rewarding way.

Eliada’s annual corn maze is a 12-acre maze with two unique trails cut out of corn. Also cut into the corn field are two storybook trails for children. In addition to the corn maze, there are attractions like corn cannons with pumpkin targets, a cow train and hayride, a giant sandbox filled with corn kernels, a spider-web net climb, and a giant jumping pillow. The theme for this year’s corn maze design is “going the distance” for the kids served by Eliada. The annual corn maze has become the biggest and most important fundraiser for Eliada.

Gamma Gamma Omega members enjoyed working with the children and adults at Eliada’s corn maze. The sorority plans to make this an annual project as they give back to the community.
