Asheville Attorney George E. Weaver, II, 66, passed away peacefully at home, with his wife Debra by his side, after a long illness.

The first-born son of the late Rosa Logan Walker and George Edward Weaver, George was born July 13, 1949. He grew up in the East End community of Asheville and was fondly known as “Eddie” by his family, friends, and close associates. He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School, Stephens-Lee High School, and graduated from South French Broad High School in the Class of 1966.

George completed undergraduate studies at North Carolina Central University in 1970, and received his law degree in 1980 from NCCU. He practiced law for 31 years. After five years with Malone, Brown & Matterson in Durham, and two with East Central Community Legal Services in Raleigh, he returned to Asheville in 1986 and established the law firm of Weaver and Williams, later Weaver, Young and Linney, located in the BB&T building downtown.

George served on the Buncombe County Board of Elections from 1990 to 1991 and was president of the NAACP, Asheville Branch, from 1993 to 1994. During his tenure with the NAACP, he was a strong advocate for the passage of the City of Asheville Non-Discrimination Ordinance, which the city passed in June of 1994.

George immensely enjoyed his hobbies of collecting and repairing Rolex, Omega, and Patek Philippe watches, and collecting guns, as well as cycling and playing billiards.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Bernard Weaver and a sister, Judith Walker Stone. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Debra Flack-Weaver; one sister, Donna Weaver Moore (Terry), of Richmond, VA; two aunts, Helen Logan Horne and Gloria Logan, both of Washington, D.C.; nephews Gregory Weaver and Nizam Moore; nieces, Keisha Morgan and Fanaye Moore, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service celebrating the life of George Edward Weaver, II was held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Ray Funeral & Cremation Service, 1373 Sweeten Creek Road.
