Simple Pleasures

Chatting with Cathy – May 2013
by Cathy James
Women are always working. Our minds and bodies are in constant motion from the moment our eyes open. It is not very often that we plan to relax and enjoy what we have. As mothers, caregivers, professionals, and partners, when- and wherever we are needed, we respond; however, we rarely hear our mind and body begging for a break.
Enjoy
Slow down, take a moment and enjoy what you have … your family, friends, friends, and all the things you thought you wanted and worked to obtain. Sometimes, we are so busy working to obtain new things that we don’t even take the time to enjoy what we already have. To our detriment, we are constantly moving on to bigger and/or better things. A lot of people have brand-new clothing hanging in the closet while they are in the stores shopping for similar items, or they’re partying at the club or volunteering outside the home when we have someone home waiting for us. Don’t take anyone or anything for granted. Your trash can always end up as someone else’s treasure.
Indulge
Whatever makes you happy, indulge yourself. I am not suggesting that you shop until you drop or die from a chocolate overdose, but treat yourself to some simple pleasure that you haven’t lately. I love to read. I can’t wait to buy a good book and savor every word, I also love to travel to new places. During your busy day, take the time and plan to do something just for you. Go to the spa for a facial or massage, get a mani-pedicure, or run a soothing bubble bath.
Relax
Enjoying and indulging will cause you to relax. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, it is important to wind down through meditation or sleep, not from complete exhaustion. Proper rest will add years to your life and not your face. Improper rest causes weight gain. The longer you’re up, the more you eat, the more weight you gain, the more you exercise, the less time you have to relax. So rest your mind and body! You deserve it after all the work you do.
