Asheville native Tamekia Miller-Madden has been chosen to represent
North Carolina in the Mrs. Black International Pageant on July 30 in
Atlanta.
“Tammy,” the daughter of Carol Hill of Sumter, SC, and Barry Miller of
Asheville, is a mother of three who recently celebrated her tenth
wedding anniversary to her husband David. She is employed full-time as
an optometric technician at Champion Eye Center in Arden, NC.
She was chosen to represent NC and interview by the pageant’s director, Lori Pelzer, in April of 2011. In addition to an opening number introduction of the contestants, each woman will be interviewed and compete in Evening Wear, Aerobic Wear, and a State/Platform Inspired Costume. The pageant activities will take place over a period of four days, ending with the finals culminating on the night of July 30.
Tammy has served as a volunteer at her son’s schools for more than ten years and has been involved with the T. C. Roberson Youth Football and Cheerleading League for the past eight years. Presently, she serves as coach, team liaison, board member, and cheerleading coordinator; for the 2011-12 school year. She will also serve on the WNC Youth Football & Cheerleading Executive Board as the East Division Cheerleading Commissioner.
“My platform is promoting good sportsmanship, as well as AIDS and HIV awareness, and I have teamed up with WNCAP’s liaison Jennifer Poore to raise even more awareness regarding this topic,” said Ms. Miller-Madden. “Jennifer has been invited to travel to Atlanta on July 29 for the AIDS/HIV Gala as one of the keynote speakers of the evening. I would love to share this journey with the community, and invite everyone to Atlanta on July 30 to the Fourteenth Street Theater for this evening of star-studded pageantry. This is a HUGE opportunity for NC and for me,” mused Tammy.
