Nance-Carson Appointed to Board

Mildred Nance-Carson, a native of Asheville, North Carolina was recently appointed to the Asheville Parks and Recreation Board for a three-year term.
Ms. Nance-Carson has volunteered at the W. C. Reid Center for Creative Arts since 1988, and currently serves on the Advisory Board as chairperson of Special Events, which annually host “Dancing with the Stars at Reid Center.” She has also spearheaded other Reid Center fundraisers and youth projects such as Earn by Learning. Her latest project is a successful three-day women’s information and wellness forum. Ms. Carson-Nance is also on the staff of “Getting Back to the Basics,” a family-oriented initiative that reaches beyond recreation to address academics, employment, and housing for the entire family.
Ms. Nance-Carson
has been employed with Mission Hospitals for 29 years, and currently
holds a position as Legal Office Specialist. She is a member and
Program Chairperson at the Solid Rock Missionary Church of South
Asheville, and when not at work or at church, she can be found in the
Asheville community working with youth and senior citizens.
Carson
is a member of SkyView Golf Association and founder and chair of the
Billy E. Gardenhight, Jr. Scholarship Foundation. She serves as a
Trustee for the North Carolina IBPOE of W (Elks) and is past Dgt Ruler.
She also serves on the Ways and Means committee Order of the Eastern
Star, where she has served as past Worthy Matron.
An
advocate for higher learning and technology literacy, through
employment with Mission Hospital System, she has secured and donated
more than 100 computers to the Asheville community.
Mildred
is one of fourteen women to receive the “Twin Award” — “Tribute to
Women of Influence” — in 2008 from the YWCA of Asheville. Her motto is
“Never expect more out of something, than you are willing to give, and
always be willing to give of yourself.”
