ICE is Not Needed
They sent ICE before sending disaster relief funds.

ICE isn’t just in Asheville, NC. They will be around all the small surrounding areas as well. Farm focused areas. Be aware.
Use your phone to grab a video. Be loud! Ask the person being detained questions. Ask them to say their name. Ask them for the name and number of someone you can call to let them know.
If our immigrant friends and neighbors aren’t safe, none of us are safe.
Don’t image that you are safe if you have a green card. You are not.
Don’t imagine that they will ever be done. They won’t.
US citizens are being detained. This is domestic terrorism.

Statement from Governor Josh Stein on Border Patrol in North Carolina
On Friday, November 14, 2025, Governor Josh Stein issued the following statement:
“Public safety is the top priority for all of us in government – and that means fighting crime, not stoking fear or causing division. We should all focus on arresting violent criminals and drug traffickers. Unfortunately, that’s not always what we have seen with ICE and Border Patrol Agents in Chicago and elsewhere around the country. The vast majority of people they have detained have no criminal convictions, and some are American citizens.
“I want to encourage North Carolinians to remember our values. We follow the law. We remain peaceful. We do not allow ourselves to be provoked. We stand with our neighbors. And when we see injustice, we bear witness. If you see any inappropriate behavior, use your phones to record and notify local law enforcement, who will continue to keep our communities safe long after these federal agents leave. That’s the North Carolina way.
“As this situation develops, I will continue to stay in touch with local and state officials to keep people safe, respect the rule of law, and support our people.”
Asheville’s Mayor Manheimer echoes Governor Stein’s message of peace, respecting rule of law, and community when addressing the expected deployment of ICE and Border Patrol in NC.
Compañeros Inmigrantes de las Montañas en Acción
The Asheville-based immigrant advocacy group Compañeros Inmigrantes de las Montañas en Acción (CIMA) has denounced ICE activity while seeking funds to help with detainees’ legal efforts.
If you see something that feels suspicious, bear witness. If you feel safe to do so, document what you are seeing, and call the CIMA Hotline (888) 839-2839. They will verify reports and share the information.
Message from Governor Josh Stein
The number one priority of the state is to keep people safe. Local law enforcement will continue to do that long after federal agents go on to the next place.
