SBA Disaster Loans for Homeowners and Renters
Disaster loans up to $500,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace disaster-damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $100,000 to repair or replace disaster-damaged or destroyed personal property.
Customer Service Representatives from the SBA are at every FEMA Disaster Recovery Center and can answer questions, help survivors complete their disaster loan application, accept documents, and provide updates on an application’s status.
Representatives are also at the Buncombe County Asheville Chamber of Commerce, 36 Montford Avenue, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Sunday.
Applicants may also call the SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or send an email to [email protected] for more information on SBA disaster assistance. For people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, please dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services.

What you need to apply for a disaster loan
- Email addresses and contact information for all applicants
- Social Security numbers for all applicants/owners
- Financial information, e.g. income and monthly expenses
- A complete copy of the most recent Federal income tax return (this can be provided later)
- Insurance information, if available
