HKonJ 2020 People’s Assembly

The 2020 version of the NAACP’s HKonJ People’s Assembly on February 14, 2020 brought tens of thousands to downtown Raleigh for a rousing series of speeches and a colorful display of people and their issue banners.

Estimated to be 30,000-strong, the marchers were focused on a variety of goals including Medicare expansion in the state, ending sex/gender discrimination, fully funding education and teachers, supporting immigrants, guaranteeing workers’ rights, and getting out the 2020 vote.

Speakers included Rev. Dr. William Barber Jr., former state NAACP president and well-known leader of the significant series of Moral Monday marches and arrests at the Statehouse who is now head of the national Repairers of the Breach; and Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Spearman, president of the NC-NAACP.
