MSDBC Job Opening: WWTP Operator in Training
Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for the WWTP Operator in Training position currently open in the Wastewater Treatment Division. This position is open until filled.
The hiring rate is $23.25 an hour. The district offers a highly competitive benefits package.
Under general supervision, the OIT performs tasks needed to support operations at the wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift for the Metropolitan Sewerage District (MSD) of Buncombe County. Initially, the OIT will work M-F/7AM-3PM. Once sufficiently trained, the OIT must have the flexibility to fill in for unexpected absences to assure proper plant coverage. When an operator position becomes vacant, the OIT will be required to assume the vacant position as an operator (typically night shift) and a new OIT will be hired.
Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining cleanliness of plant buildings and grounds.
- Assisting Operators with plant functions and rounds.
- Attending operator certification training classes.
- Other tasks as determined by the Operations Manager.
Employees must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with MSD staff. Reports to the WWTP Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s license.
