MSD Job Opening for Night Shift Lead Operator

Hiring range of $30.79 (min) – $37.74 (mid). Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply. This position is open until filled.

Operators will work a biweekly shift of Wednesday through Saturday 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the first week, then Thursday through Saturday 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the second week.

Under general supervision, performs responsible technical work and leadership in the operation and minor maintenance of equipment at the wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift for the Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County. Work involves operation of any and all equipment at the treatment Plant. Provides leadership, guidance and training to other less experienced Operators. Work involves collecting and testing water samples from plant systems, and controlling mechanical, electrical, and chemical equipment involved in pumping and/or treating wastewater.

Employee is also responsible for making adjustments and repairs to equipment as required. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with plant personnel. Reports to the WWTP Operations Manager. The Lead Operator is responsible for working a shift if a replacement cannot be secured.

Minimum Training and Experience

• Graduation from a two- or four-year college or university with a science based degree.
• Supervisory experience in WWTP operation and mechanical repair work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
• Must possess a valid NC Biological Grade IV operator’s license or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of the date of hire.
• Requires a valid North Carolina Driver’s license.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience at a Grade II or higher WWTP.
