MSD Job Opening for Fleet Mechanic

Pay is dependent upon experience; the preferred hiring range is $24.74-$35.90/ hr.

The Metropolitan Sewerage District (MSD) is looking for an experienced Fleet Mechanic who wants a stable career as a Fleet Mechanic. Scope of work will include routine diesel engine maintenance, repair, troubleshooting with vehicle or engine-specific software, and electrical diagnostics with schematics. The majority of work is with Cummins engines.

Examples of other diesel engines to be maintained and repaired include John Deere, Perkins, CAT, and Kubota. Vehicles and equipment range from Class 8 trucks (Class A CDL), fleet vehicles (Class C gas and diesel), backhoes, excavators (9000 to 43000 lbs.), track loaders, tractors with implement attachments, and an assortment of smaller construction and sewer cleaning equipment. The best-qualified person will have experience with brakes (air & hydraulic), hydraulic/ pneumatics, vehicle & trailer electrical wiring, electronic troubleshooting, computer diagnostics, and software skills are required.

Minimum Training and Experience

Graduation from high school and 5 to 10 years of experience in the maintenance of small to large, motorized equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Preferred Training and Experience

• 10 or more years of experience in the maintenance of small to large, motorized equipment.
• Possession of a valid Class A CDL driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina with a tanker endorsement.
