MSD Job Opening for WWTP Operator

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for the vacant position currently open in the Wastewater Treatment Division. This position is open until filled.

Hiring range $20.57 – $23.28, salary will depend on qualifications and experience.

Under general supervision, performs responsible technical work in the operation and minor maintenance of equipment at the wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift for the Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County. Work involves collecting samples from plant systems, and controlling mechanical, electrical, and chemical equipment involved in pumping and treating wastewater along with the operation of a fluidized-bed incinerator.

Employee is also responsible for making adjustments and minor repairs to equipment as required. Independent judgment and initiative are required based on training and experience in making decisions and coordinating the proper operation of equipment. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with MSD staff. Reports to the WWTP Operations Manager.

***Plant Operations is 24-hour 7-day week function, (Overtime may be required) ***

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school and 1 to 2 years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operation and mechanical repair work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Requires a valid North Carolina Driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

A Grade II Biological operator’s license in wastewater treatment issued by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality or North Carolina equivalent.
