YMCA Job Opportunities: Afterschool Counselors, Youth Mentors, and Site Directors
Support student wellness, social and emotional learning, and academic achievement
Get paid to have fun while developing leadership skills and making a difference in kids’ lives. Part-time positions are available in afterschool programs for pre-K to middle school students in Buncombe and McDowell. Work 18-25 hours/week, Monday-Friday after school. Training and certifications provided. Includes YMCA membership. Pay range is $15-$17/hr.
Requirements
- At least 16 years of age for some positions; at least 18 for others
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Able to stand, sit, play, crawl, jump, swim, speak, hear, listen, observe, and supervise for extended periods of time
- Have knowledge and experience working with children and must be able to effectively manage children in a group setting
- Strong communication skills and an eagerness to work and improve
- Current certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid are required
- Must meet standards set by state licensing regulations, including passing a staff medical exam and an annual TB test
- Reliable transportation
- Spanish fluency preferred, but not required
