Rep. Adelita Grijalva Sworn In
Signs petition to require the DOJ to release the Epstein files.
US Rep. Adelita Grijalva, D-Ariz., was sworn in officially to the House of Representatives on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 by Speaker Mike Johnson, more than seven weeks after voters elected her to the seat.
Grijalva won a special election in late September to succeed her father, Rep. Raúl Grijalva, who died earlier this year at age 77. She is the first Latina to represent Arizona in the US House. Her congressional district includes the city of Tucson and almost all of Arizona’s border with Mexico.
Johnson previously said he would not officially seat Grijalva in the House until the chamber reconvened following a deal to end the ongoing government shutdown.
After her swearing-in, Grijalva added the last needed signature on a petition to force a House vote on a bill requiring the Department of Justice to release all unclassified documents and communications in the Jeffrey Epstein case.
The End of the Government Shutdown and the Epstein Emails
Representative Adelita Grijalva speaks with Joe Mathieu and Tyler Kendall on the late edition of Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power.”
The newly sworn-in representative discusses her first day in Congress and what Speaker Johnson and herself spoke about as she was being sworn-in.
She talks about signing the discharge petition on the Jeffrey Epstein files, what she believes is the next process, and if these files will be made public. She also shares her thoughts on how her Congressional colleagues are feeling now that the government has reopened.
