With long-time Rep. Susan Fisher’s retirement official on Jan. 31, Gov. Roy Cooper formally appointed Caleb Rudow to serve the remainder of her term this year; he was sworn in that same day. As we reported last month, Rudow was nominated by the Buncombe County Democratic Party to fill Fisher’s term, and he has told The Urban News that he will run for a full term this fall.

Rudow is an Asheville native who attended Isaac Dickson Elementary, Asheville Middle, Asheville High School, and UNC Chapel Hill. He served with the Peace Corps in Zambia for three-and-a-half years as an agriculture and forestry extension volunteer. He later earned a master’s degree in Global Policy Studies from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.
