City Manager Debra Campbell is pleased to announce that Richard J. White, III has been named Assistant City Manager after a highly competitive national search.
White comes to Asheville from Elon, N.C. where he currently serves as Town Manager. He also worked in Athens, Georgia as Assistant Manager for Administrative and Community Services, where he oversaw numerous departments, including but not limited to Fire and Emergency Services, Organizational Development, Planning, Finance, and Human Resources.
A native of Asheville and a graduate of Asheville High School, White is eager to contribute to his hometown.
Campbell states, “I am extremely pleased to have such an experienced leader who is also an Asheville native join our leadership team. I look forward to all we will accomplish together in service to the Asheville community.”
White looks forward to coming back to Asheville. “I consider being selected to serve in any community a privilege, but having the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of my own hometown is even more meaningful. I am excited to join City Manager Debra Campbell’s team as the Assistant City Manager as we work together with the community to enhance the quality of life for all Asheville residents. I am looking forward to getting started,” he stated.
White holds a bachelor’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill where he was a Morehead Scholar and NC Fellow, and a masters from NC State University, where he was a HUD Fellow.
He will begin work on July 29, 2019.
