On July 26, 2016, the Asheville City Council appointed Attorney S. Antanette Mosley to the African American Heritage Commission to serve a three-year term.

The Commission was established to discover, develop, promote and implement projects and programs to recognize African American history in Buncombe County.

Mosley returned to Asheville after living and practicing law in Atlanta for the past 20 years. She is from a multi-generational Buncombe/Asheville family dating back to at least her great-grandparents. Antanette’s father, Dr. Charles R. Mosley, Sr., currently pastors the oldest historically African American Baptist church in the city.

“As the daughter of a civil rights activist, I grew up witnessing first-hand the significant contributions African Americans made to our region’s rich history and traditions. I’m looking forward to ensuring our tapestry remains an integral part of the fabric of the area for generations to come,” said Antanette.

Mosley graduated from the Asheville School in 1987 and matriculated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Antanette received her BA in psychology with a minor in African American Studies in 1991. She subsequently attended the Georgia State College of Law, obtaining a JD in 2000.

Mosley currently serves as the Director of Resource Development at Mountain Housing Opportunities.
